Patch estimating needs more than square footage
A small visible hole does not always produce a small cut piece. The repair may need to be
opened to the center of framing, squared past cracked paper, or enlarged for solid backing.
That is why this calculator starts with the replacement-piece dimensions and checks how
those rectangles physically fit on a sheet.
Joint compound, tape, and labor vary even more. A California patch, a framed replacement,
a ceiling repair, a texture blend, and a water-damaged opening can have similar face area
but very different coating and return-trip requirements. Price those conditions as scope,
not as a universal per-square-foot promise.
