About BoardCount

BoardCount is a focused iPhone and iPad app for drywall material counts, job pricing, saved estimates, and proposal PDFs. Sam Fuller started the product from hands-on construction experience and the recurring need for a field tool that is faster than a spreadsheet but more transparent than a black-box quote generator.
The product is intentionally narrow. It does not inspect a site, identify hidden damage, choose a code-compliant assembly, or replace contractor judgment. It organizes the measurements and assumptions a user provides, then makes the math visible enough to review before materials are ordered or a proposal is signed.

Cost guidance uses local inputs and ranges instead of pretending one national price fits every job.
How the calculator methodology works
The website calculators mirror the core assumptions used by the BoardCount app. Sheet counts are rounded up to whole panels. Entered waste is applied to board ordering, while finish-material coverage is based on installed area. The published baseline assumptions are 37 linear feet of tape, 1.0 gallon of joint compound, and 0.27 pounds of screws per 100 square feet of installed drywall. Package counts round up to whole 500-foot tape rolls, 4.5-gallon compound pails, and one-pound screw boxes.
These are planning assumptions, not manufacturer coverage guarantees. Product type, finish level, framing, fastening schedule, crew technique, waste, repair conditions, and site access can change actual use. The calculators show the inputs so a user can replace defaults with a better job-specific assumption when one is available.

How editorial content is reviewed
BoardCount guides are written for a specific user question, reviewed against the app's actual behavior, and dated when materially changed. Formula pages are checked against the production estimating engine. Product claims are checked against the current App Store listing and tested app output. Technical finish guidance links to primary industry or manufacturer material where practical.
The site avoids unsupported claims about guaranteed accuracy, guaranteed job wins, fixed national labor prices, code compliance, or universal material coverage. When a page uses a dated App Store rank or rating, it states the check date because those values can change. As of July 16, 2026, the US App Store search API returned BoardCount first for “drywall estimator,” and the public listing showed a 5.0 rating from one rating.
How proposal privacy is described
BoardCount generates a separate internal estimate and client proposal. The generated client proposal does not automatically include markup, margin, labor rates, unit prices, or internal notes. Contractors can enter custom proposal text, so every exported document should still be reviewed before it is sent. See the two-page sample proposal for the current client-facing structure.
Ownership, privacy, and contact
BoardCount is published by Iron Canyon Ventures LLC. Jobs and settings are stored locally in the current app. The app uses pseudonymous PostHog product analytics, and this website uses privacy-focused Vercel Web Analytics. Neither analytics path is intended to collect client names, project addresses, calculator values, receipt payloads, or free-form job text. Read the Privacy Policy for the full description.
